One of the questions we get asked most often is if a work permit is requuired when traveling into Canada for work in entertainment. The answer is… maybe!

There are multiple factors that determine the need for a work permit, such as the person’s role, the type of project, and the duration of travel.

For example, someone visiting Canada as part of a live performance, whether the artist, technical crew, or management, can enter as a visitor and doesn’t require a work permit. Film and television professionasl adn producers general require a work permit, but there are some times when short-term exemptions are available.

The time to address the need for a work permit is as soon as you know you need to travel. The consequences for failing to obtain a required permit can be substantial. This is not something you want to leave to the last minute.

It’s also important to note that a work permit does not change the need for a waiver for someone who is inadmissable or a visa for a person from a visa-required country.

The words Shoutouts & Successes with fireworks in the background

This fall, we had the pleasure of working with SoCal-based Alliant Events, one of the US’s leading production services companies for live events. When Alliant needed to send a core team of production professionals to Lake Louise, Alberta, to support one of their client’s signature events, Mundial Law was more than happy to make their entry as smooth as posssible. This was the second time that we have been invited to collaborate with the great folks at Alliant to find the solutions that best suited their needs and to make sure they didn’t have to worry about getting into Canada when it counted.

Congrats to our friends at Alliant Events for an amazing event in Lake Louise in October.

Mundial Law Offers Free FBI Report Reviews

An arrest record and criminal convictions, even old ones, can prevent a person from being able to cross the border into Canada. A person’s FBI record can be pulled upon arrival, and the Canada Border Services Agency has the authority to deny entry.

It’s better to get ahead of this before you travel.

We offer free FBI report reviews to advise individuals what they can expect from Canadian immgration officials and to strategize about how we can help make travel smoother.

You can find step-by-step instructions for obtaining an FBI report on our website. Please note that the fee to obtain the report is $50 (payable to the reporting company, not Mundial Law).

Who Doesn’t Love Classic New Wave?

Maggie had the opportunity to see New Wave icons DEVO and The B-52s.

From her amazing seats at the Hollywood Bowl, Maggie got to hear the bands play some of their biggest hits, including “Whip It” and “Love Shack.” And of course there were a few deeper cuts only a hardcore fan would recognize.

Big thanks to our firends in the DEVO camp for this fantastic opportunity!

Read more about it and catch an earworm in our latest Fun Stuff post.
